About Me

Hi there! I’m Alexis Treichel, an Isanti-County native with a passion for students and education. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, families, and the community at large as a candidate for Cambridge-Isanti School Board.

Over the last year and a half, I’ve worked with Disability EmpowHer Network, mentoring and training young disabled women (ages 13-18) to enact change in their communities as it relates to emergency management. They receive interview prep, resume workshops, training on advocacy and directing their own care, as well as the opportunity to connect with the staff of their congress members and other stakeholders in the disability advocacy community. They also receive support in being matched with remote work that aligns with their interests, and have access to that support for up to 6 years after their graduation from the program.

More recently, I’ve been given the opportunity to hire paid interns (some of whom have graduated from the Disability EmpowHer Network EmpowHer Camp program), specifically young disabled women and disabled trans or nonbinary people, providing them stable employment, digital media and marketing training, and on-the-job experience that they can take with them to further employment opportunities. Considering the intersectionality between many feminist issues and disability-related issues, I’ve also been an advocate in the community for approximately 3 years, working to create programs that improve access and inclusion in all spaces for all people.

I am also currently in the process of starting my own non-profit that will focus on providing the disability community with important information about the accessibility of various locations throughout the state, and beginning my application to become a guardian ad litem, or Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).

I decided to run for school board after learning that many students face the same struggles I did as a post-secondary student with a freshly acquired disability. Students are our future – they are bright, brilliant, and resourceful, and I’ve learned so much from working with them. I want to ensure that every student is given access to the resources they need to succeed – whether that means making sure captioning is available for all events, peer-to-peer tutoring, free school meals, or classrooms that accommodate mobility devices.

Some consider my age a detriment, but as someone who is 10 years out from graduating high school, the experience is still fairly fresh for me and I can still see how my education experience has shaped the life I live now.

I’m driven by my open-mindedness and the understanding that each human is living their own, unique experience – while I may not agree with everyone, I can appreciate their thoughts, opinions, and the life experiences that have brought them both.

Lastly, a strength I carry from my own personal experience of growing up in a lower-middle-class family and facing poverty as an adult is the ability to make money stretch. I think my unique perspective and creativity could work to the benefit of the school budget – where my priorities lie with the students and their education team.

I attended C-I schools through 7th grade, then transferred to a local private school for 8th grade through my sophomore year. For my junior and senior years, I completed college courses through the PSEO program and graduated from Blue Sky Charter School in 2013. I received my Associate of Science from Georgia Military College in 2016, and had an active American Council on Exercise Personal Training and Group Fitness Instructor Certification from 2014-2018.

I enjoy working in our community and spent 10 years at GTI Theatres in Cambridge and North Branch. I’ve also spent time working locally – at Westerberg Chiropractic and the Corner Cup, and beyond – at Snap Fitness of Maple Grove, Moody AFB Fitness Center, Digital Stack, and FitArmadillo.

Currently, I split my time between Starbucks and my own business and marketing consulting agency, working with small businesses and nonprofits while training and providing on-the-job experience for young disabled people.
